After Woman's Killing In Kosovo, Protesters March Against Gender-Based Violence

Protesters gathered for a march planned by the Artpolis arts organization, which arranged for participants to carry what they called "balloons of hope."

Participants carried a sign with the slogan "Stop Femicide -- Enough!" Nertila Qarri-Gerguri from the Artpolis group said activists were demanding an end to what they call systemic violence against women in Kosovo.

Activists demanded that authorities take action against widespread gender-based violence.

Liridona Murseli was the third woman killed this year and the 54th since 2010 in Kosovo, a country with fewer than 2 million people.

Authorities have detained Naim Murseli, the husband of the victim, and prosecutors accuse him of paying 30,000 euros ($30,500) for his wife's murder.
