Kurdish Peshmerga fighters battled Iraqi troops on October 20 in the northernmost part of Kirkuk Province. News agencies reported the Peshmerga were driven from the town of Altun Kupri, the last district they controlled in the oil-rich province. The fighting came three weeks after the autonomous Kurdish region held an independence referendum that Baghdad declared illegal. (Reuters/Rudaw TV)
