Kuwait Sentences Three Men To Death On Charges Of Spying For Iran

A court in Kuwait has condemned to death two Iranians and a Kuwaiti national for belonging to an Iranian spy ring.

Judicial officials in Kuwait say man from Syria and a "stateless Arab" also were sentenced to life in prison at the conclusion of the espionage trial. Another Iranian man and the only woman defendant -- a daughter of one of the two Iranians sentenced to death -- were acquitted.

The three men condemned to death and the Syrian all were serving in Kuwait's army at the time of their arrest in May 2010. The stateless Arab was described as "an ex-soldier."

The defendants were accused of spying for Iran and passing information on about the Kuwaiti and US military into Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

Iran has denied that the men were spies for Tehran.
