BISHKEK -- The chief of the Kyrgyz Interior Ministry Academy and his deputy have been arrested and charged with accepting bribes.
Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security (UKMK) said on March 14 that the academy's deputy chief, Rakhmatillo Amiraev, was arrested while receiving 100,000 soms ($2,100) from a female colleague, reportedly in exchange for resolving work-related issues.
The committee said UKMK officers later found a large amount of foreign currency in Amiraev's office.
The arrest of academy chief Almaz Bazarbaev followed immediately after the arrest of his deputy.
There has been no public comment from the arrested men or their representatives.
