A court in Bishkek on August 2 extended until at least September 26 the pretrial detention of Ulan Japarov, a son of President Sadyr Japarov's cousin, who was arrested in early July on charges related to corruption involving Kyrgyzstan's customs regime. President Japarov said in a televised interview last week that nobody was above the law and anyone "involved in bribery" must face justice.
