BISHKEK -- A prosecutor in Bishkek's Birinchi Mai district is rejecting accusations that regulations were violated during the investigation and trial of three opposition members of parliament.
Asanaly Imanbekov told RFE/RL that legal proceedings against the three Ata-Jurt party leaders were handled professionally and in accordance with Kyrgyz laws.
Imanbekov called the accusations by the Council of Kyrgyz Human Rights Defenders an attempt to impose pressure on the court.
Kamchybek Tashiev, Sadyr Japarov, and Talant Mamytov are charged with provoking public unrest last year.
Authorities cited their role in violent protests in October by about 1,000 demonstrators in the capital, Bishkek, who demanded nationalization of the country’s Kumtor gold mine.
The three politicians went on trial on January 10.
A verdict is expected to be announced on March 29.
