Blast Near Egyptian Consulate In Benghazi

There has been a small explosion in front of the Egyptian consulate in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi.

Witnesses said the blast on August 17 injured an Egyptian security guard.

The explosion was apparently caused by a small bomb hidden inside a briefcase.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

The explosion damaged the outer wall of the building and cars parked outside the mission.

The incident comes as Egyptian security forces are conducting a crackdown on Islamist supporters of President Muhammad Morsi, who was ousted and detained by the military last month.
