The former Libyan intelligence agent who was convicted in connection with the 1988 airliner bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland, has made a public appearance at a rally in Tripoli in support of Libyan ruler Muammar Qaddafi.
Libyan state television on July 27 showed the convict, Abdel Basset al-Megrahi, sitting in a wheelchair at a tribal meeting in the Libyan capital.
His appearance came with Qaddafi seeking to rally support for continuing his regime in the face of NATO air strikes and operations by Libyan rebels seeking to end his 41-year rule.
Megrahi returned to Libya in 2009 after being freed from a Scottish jail on the grounds he was suffering from terminal prostate cancer.
Megrahi was convicted in 2001 of playing a "significant part in planning and perpetrating" the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie in which 270 people were killed, mostly Americans.
His release from Scottish jail angered politicians in the United States.
