Voters in Macedonia's capital, Skopje, are casting their ballots in a referendum over a possible change in the country's official name. The September 30 nonbinding plebiscite will show the extent of popular support for an agreement reached in June with Greece, which has regional and historical objections to the name Macedonia being used by another country. The agreement stipulates that Macedonia change its name to the Republic of North Macedonia. Ending the name dispute also paves the way for the country's accession to the European Union and NATO.
