Man From Daghestan Reportedly Among Killed Jihadists In Yemen

A man from Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Daghestan has been killed by security forces in Yemen on May 8.

Yemeni media reported on May 9 that Timur Al-Daghestani and a Saudi citizen were killed in the southern Shabwa province, where the army is staging an offensive against strongholds of Al-Qaeda.

The reports also that two French citizens of Tunisian origin, who had reportedly fought in the ranks of Al-Qaeda, had been arrested on May 8 when trying to flee the country from an unidentified airport.

The reports came the day when Yemeni Defense Minister Mohamed Nasser Ahmad and top intelligence and military police officials escaped an Al-Qaeda ambush in the country’s south.

Also on May 9, militants attacked the presidential palace and a building housing political security staff in Yemen's capital -- Sanaa.
