Since it launched its full-scale invasion, Russia has captured the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and the now-destroyed Kakhovka hydroelectric power station -- two of Ukraine's largest electricity-generating facilities. It has also forced the Dnieper hydroelectric power station to shut down by bombing it.

US President Donald Trump has suggested that the United States take ownership of Ukraine's power plants, saying it "would be the best protection for that infrastructure."

An RFE/RL map shows where Ukraine's major nuclear and hydroelectric power plants are located.
