Hospital officials say one Yemeni protester died after he was wounded in clashes with police in the capital Sanaa on March 8.
Witnesses said security forces opened fire on protesters, injuring at least 65 people demonstrating for an end to President Ali Abdullah Saleh's 32-year rule.
Protests were reported in several other cities as well, including the southern port of Aden.
Earlier on March 8, at least one prisoner was reported killed when thousands of inmates rioted in the central prison in the capital.
Yemen is one of a number of countries in the Middle East and North Africa region that have been hit by unrest since mass protests ousted the presidents of Tunisia and Egypt earlier this year.
The Yemeni government is also facing a resurgent Al-Qaeda, a separatist movement in the south, and a Shi'ite rebellion flaring up periodically in the north.
