Time magazine has named German Chancellor Angela Merkel as its Person Of The Year 2015.
In its announcement on December 9, the New York-based news magazine hailed Merkel's leadership through Europe's debt crisis, its migrant crisis, and Russian's military intervention in Ukraine.
The magazine placed Merkel's picture on its website with a quote from one of her speeches, saying, "I am surprised at how faint-hearted we sometimes are, and how quickly we lose courage."
Time's editor Nancy Gibbs wrote, "For asking more of her country than most politicians would dare, for standing firm against tyranny as well as expedience and for providing steadfast moral leadership in a world where it is in short supply, Angela Merkel is Time's Person of the Year."
