Nineteen migrants, including six children, drowned at sea near the Aegean city of Izmir while heading for the Greek island of Lesbos.
Their wooden boat capsized in high waves 3 kilometers off the Bademli coast in the Aegean, the Dogan news agency reported.
The Turkish coast guard said rescue teams managed to save 21 people and were looking for one other survivor.
In a separate incident, at least 13 people, including seven children, drowned when their boat sank in the Aegean Sea between Turkey and Greece on December 23.
The UN refugee agency and the International Organization for Migration have said that more than 1 million migrants and refugees reached Europe this year, most of them by sea.
They said 3,692 people drowned trying to reach Europe.
