Moldova's Democratic Party has agreed to join a pro-Western alliance, ruling out a coalition with the Communist Party.
The new alliance brings together the Democratic Party, the Liberal Democrats, and the Liberals.
It is expected to be formally announced when parliament convenes later today.
Moldova has been in political deadlock since a November 28 vote failed to form a ruling coalition.
Today's decision did not create the majority necessary to elect a president.
Democratic Party leader Marian Lupu will reportedly take over as temporary speaker of parliament.
