A survey conducted by Russia's Public Chamber has found that Moscow is the fourth-most expensive Russian city in which to live.
Public Chamber chief Mikhail Popov said his government-affiliated organization used an index based on expenses for transport and gasoline, housing, utilities, and food in Russian cities with populations of 1 million or more.
Based on that index, his organization found that the most expensive Russian city to live in is Khabarovsk.
The Public Chamber said Khabarovsk residents need to earn some 16,400 rubles (about $500) monthly to pay their bills and purchase basic goods.
The city is located in eastern Siberia on the Amur River.
Khabarovsk is followed on Public Chamber's list by Yekaterinburg in the Ural Mountains ($435 monthly) and Krasnoyarsk ($425 monthly), also in Siberia.
