A Moscow court has ordered mandatory psychiatric treatment for a Moscow teenager it found killed two people in a rare Russian school shooting last year.
The Butyrka District Court concluded on March 3 that the defendant, whose name has never been disclosed, was mentally unstable and ruled that he must be sent to a psychriatric treatment facility.
He will be confined there for six months, a term than can be extended.
Investigators said the Moscow teenager entered his high school on February 3, 2014, fatally shot a teacher and held more than 20 classmates hostage.
They said he opened fire at police who responded to the emergency, killing one officer and wounding another.
Igor Trunov, a lawyer for relatives of the victims, said the ruling will be appealed.
He said relatives believe the judicial process was flawed and had questions about the boy got access to the guns.
