NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg is expected to address Bosnia-Herzegovina’s path to membership in the alliance during a visit to Sarajevo on February 2.
Stoltenberg is due to meet with the president of the three-member Bosnian presidency, Mladen Ivanic, as well as Prime Minister Denis Zvizdic and other top officials.
He will also deliver a speech at the Army Hall in Sarajevo.
The 1995 NATO bombing of Bosnia targeted the Bosnian Serb Army and together with international pressure led to the signing of the Dayton peace accords that ended the Bosnian war.
The military alliance has led multinational forces deployed to Bosnia after the war.
In 2006, the country joined NATO’s Partnership for Peace program and has been engaged in a dialogue with the alliance on its membership aspirations and related reforms since 2008.
