NATO Sets Date For 2016 Summit In Warsaw

NATO says its summit in Warsaw scheduled for 2016 will take place on July 8-9.

In a statement on May 22, the alliance said this summit will come at "a crucial time for the alliance, as the tectonic plates of Euro-Atlantic security have shifted both in the east and the south."

The statement was referring to Russia's actions in Ukraine and the threat presented by Islamic extremism.

At its last summit in September 2014 in Wales, the alliance agreed on a Readiness Action Plan to adapt the 28-state alliance to the new security environment.

Poland and the Baltic states said earlier this month that they were seeking permanent NATO deployments on their soil to counter increased Russian military activity.
