Afghan Official Says NATO Air Strike Kills Seven Civilians

The governor of southern Afghanistan's Helmand Province says seven civilians were accidentally killed when a NATO helicopter fired on two vehicles believed to be carrying Taliban fighters on March 25.

The Associated Press cites a statement issued by Governor Mohammad Gulab Mangal saying the seven victims were two men, two women, and three children who were traveling in another vehicle near the NATO-targeted ones.

NATO has confirmed the strike, which occurred in the Naw Zad district of Helmand Province, but has given no casualty figures pending an investigation.
