Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of Russia's Chechen Republic, has welcomed the closure of a newspaper named after his late father.
The small newspaper, named "Kadyrov's Way," came to his attention during President Vladimir Putin's annual media conference on December 20.
A journalist from the newspaper elicited giggles in the conference hall when she named her publication before asking the president a question.
Putin urged the reporters not to laugh and said the newspaper was named after former Chechen President Ahmad Kadyrov, who was killed in a bombing attack in 2004.
Ramzan Kadyrov said the newspaper, which announced its closure hours after Putin's news conference, had failed to ask for permission to use his surname.
