Nine people were killed in a car-bomb explosion at the airport in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad.
The killed included six civilians, an Afghan soldier, and two security guards.
Twelve people were reported injured. No NATO troops were killed or injured, although the airport is used by foreigners for both civilian and military flights.
A Taliban statement said the bomb was carried out in response to the burning of copies of the Koran at a NATO air base last week.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have appealed for calm, as violence during protests across Afghanistan against the Koran burnings resulted in the deaths of at least 30 people.
