Hundreds Stage New Protest Over Oncology Scandal In North Macedonia

Protests in Skopje on September 11

Several hundred demonstrators marched, blew airhorns, and chanted, "No justice, no peace!" in the streets of the capital of North Macedonia, Skopje, late on September 11 to demand justice over shocking allegations of corruption and abuse in the oncology sector.* The demonstrators gave officials one week to shed more light on the case or face stepped-up protests. Prosecutors and the Interior Ministry earlier this month announced preliminary investigations into months-old reports that vital drugs for cancer patients were being stolen from a state-run clinic to be sold on the black market, along with mismanagement and other problems, sparking a first protest.
