U.S. President Barack Obama said he was confident that Washington's commitment to the NATO military alliance would continue after he leaves office in January. In a speech in Athens during his final official foreign tour as president, he said that NATO was as strong as ever, and had been strongly supported by administrations of both parties. President-elect Donald Trump suggested during the campaign that he might abandon a guarantee of protection for fellow NATO countries if they did not fulfill their financial obligations to the alliance.
