WATCH: Victims' Families Commemorate 9/11 Attacks In New York

Politicians, dignitaries, and victims' relatives gathered on the 13th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks in New York, Washington, and in rural Pennsylvania to remember the nearly 3,000 people killed in Al-Qaeda's attacks on the United States.

President Barack Obama spoke at the Pentagon during a private ceremony for relatives of the people killed in the attack on the headquarters of the U.S. Defense Department.

Obama told relatives, "You've kept alive a love that no act of terror can ever extinguish. We carry on because as Americans, we do not give in to fear. Ever."

In New York, relatives began slowly reciting the names of the victims at a ceremony.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was among the mourners, as was New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.
