The Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) has expressed concern that Belarus is intimidating and harassing "critical media."
"This worrisome trend, which strengthened after the presidential election [on December 19, 2010], has reached a critical point," said OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatovic in a statement released today.
In a letter recently sent to Belarusian Foreign Minister Syarhey Martynau, Mijatovic listed cases where journalists and media were subjected to pressure.
She expressed particular concern about criminal investigations against journalists Iryna Khalip and Natalya Radzina.
