Police said a teenage suicide bomber in a school uniform blew himself up at an army training camp in northwest Pakistan today, killing at least 27 soldiers and wounding up to 40.
Police said the bomber walked into the heavily guarded compound in the town of Mardan and set off his explosives while the recruits were training.
A Taliban spokesman said the militants had carried out the attack.
The spokesman told AFP that militant attacks will continue to avenge people killed by U.S. drone attacks and military operations in the tribal regions near the border with Afghanistan that are seen as a safe haven for Taliban and Al-Qaeda militants.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said in a statement that such "cowardly" attacks cannot affect "the resolve of the nation to eradicate terrorism."
