Three Pakistani army soldiers have been killed in an explosion in the North Waziristan tribal area near the border with Afghanistan.

Military officials said a roadside bomb exploded on September 1 near the town of Miran Shah, killing the soldiers and wounding 10 others. The bomb exploded as a convoy of about 20 military vehicles was passing the site.

The region is considered a major hub for Taliban and Al-Qaeda militants fighting in Afghanistan and is the scene of frequent U.S. drone attacks.

On August 31, a drone strike on a compound near Heso Khel killed at least four suspected militants.
