Pakistan’s former foreign secretary, Shaharyar Khan, has been appointed as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Justice Mohammad Sair Ali, who was appointed as election commissioner for the sport’s governing board in Pakistan, said on August 18 that Khan was elected unanimously by the board of governors after no other candidate filed nomination papers.
It will be 80-year-old Khan's second sting as the board chairman.
His previous three-year tenure ended in 2006 when Pakistan forfeited a test match against England.
Pakistan's Supreme Court in early August directed the government to hold fresh elections after the previous chairmen -- Najam Sethi and Zaka Ashraf -- were involved in various court cases since May 2013.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who is also patron of Pakistan’s Cricket Board, had appointed Sethi and Khan directly on the board of governors.
