Pakistani Activists Decry Blocking Of Baloch Film

An anticensorship organization in Pakistan has criticized the government for blocking a short film about rights abuses in the restive southwestern province of Balochistan.

The Digital Rights Foundation criticized the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority for blocking the film, "The Line on Freedom," on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) website.

The group said the blocking represents an "unprecedented event" because Islamabad has "used all sorts of means to curb the dissidents’ views" from Balochistan.

The group claims blocking of the Baloch film is the first case of targeted online censorship in Pakistan.

The film sheds light on the largely underreported issue of suspected Baloch separatists being abducted by Pakistani security agencies without charges.

Islamabad has been blocking the video sharing website Youtube for more than a year.
