Pakistan Factory Death Toll Climbs As Search Continues

Pakistani rescuers search for victims in the rubble of a collapsed factory on the outskirts of Lahore on November 6.

The death toll from a factory collapse in Pakistan has climbed to 26 as rescuers continued to dig through the rubble.

Hundreds of engineers, diggers, and sniffer dogs have been at work since the building collapsed on November 4, south of Lahore.

About 110 survivors were rescued by the afternoon of November 6, Lahore's chief administrator Mohamed Usman said.

Rescuers will need another three days to reach the bottom of the structure, Usman also said.

Arshad Zia, head of rescue services in Punjab Province, said rescuers expected to find at least 25 more dead bodies.

The cause of the tragedy, which took place at a time when a third floor was being added to the factory, has not been confirmed.

Officials said the building may have suffered structural damage in a 7.5-magnitude earthquake that hit the region last week, killing more than 400 people.
