Unidentified gunmen have killed a secular female politician in Pakistan's restive northwest.
Local police said on August 17 that Najma Hanif was killed late on the previous day inside her home in a neighborhood of Peshawar, capital of the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
Police said the attackers used a silenced pistol.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack and the motive behind the shooting was unclear.
But Hanif's husband and son were killed by a Taliban suicide bomber in November 2011.
Hanif, 35, was a member of the Awami National Party, which is an outspoken critic of the Taliban.
The party backed military operations against the extremists while it ruled Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province between 2008 and early 2013.
The Taliban have killed hundreds of party loyalists since 2008.
