Insurgents Killed In Pakistan Helicopter Attack

Pakistani security officials say helicopter gunships have carried out strikes against a militant compound in the country's northwest, killing nine insurgents.

The attack on February 22 targeted a militant training facility in the village of Thal in the Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Hangu borders the tribal region of Orakzai, where the Taliban and Al-Qaeda-linked militants have a strong presence.

The attack was the third such strike in recent days.

Earlier this week, fighter jets targeted suspected insurgent hideouts in the area, reportedly killing at least 35 militants.

The attacks follow a breakdown in negotiations between the government and the Pakistani Taliban earlier this week.
