Pakistani Military Says Indian Fire Kills Soldier

An Indian Border Security Force soldier patrols along the border fence at an outpost along the India-Pakistan border in Suchit-Garh on January 10.

The Pakistani military says Indian troops shot and killed a Pakistani soldier in the third deadly cross-border incident reported in five days in the disputed region of Kashmir.

A Pakistan Army spokesman said the soldier was killed by "unprovoked" Indian fire while manning a post in the Battal sector of Kashmir, which is divided between the two sides by a heavily fortified border known as the Line of Control.

There was no immediate reaction from India.

The two nuclear-armed powers have blamed each other over an incident on January 6 in which a Pakistani soldier was killed, and another on January 8 in which two Indian soldiers were killed.
