Executive Director Of Top Pakistan Media Group Kidnapped

A senior police official says gunmen have kidnapped the executive director of Pakistan's main media group.

Mushtaq Khan said on September 29 that Abid Abdullah of the Jang media group was abducted overnight in the northwestern city of Peshawar.

The motive behind the kidnapping was not clear.

The Jang group publishes Pakistan's top-selling Urdu and English-language newspapers, and runs the country's most popular television station, Geo.

It has been vocal in criticizing militants, politicians, and the military establishment.

In the last 15 years, more than 50 journalists have been killed in Pakistan, making the country one of the most dangerous countries for reporters.
