PESHAWAR -- Hundreds of villagers in Pakistan's northwest Khyber tribal district are staging a protest against the deaths of at least 14 local residents allegedly killed by security forces.

RFE/RL's Radio Mashaal reports that villagers laid the bullet-riddled bodies of their relatives in front of the governor's house in Peshawar on January 16.

The protesters said men in uniforms raided their homes in the Sipah Alam Goodar area overnight and shot the villagers dead.

Speaking under condition of anonymity, an official from the Frontier Constabulary, a paramilitary organization, denied government forces had anything to do with the killings.

The official blamed the deaths on militants.
