Pakistani Lawmaker Freed After Being Detained For More Than Two Years

Pakistani lawmaker Ali Wazir, known for his criticism of the country's powerful military and intelligence establishment, has been released from jail after being detained for more than two years. Wazir had initially been detained in 2016, but was released before being jailed again in 2020. He faced numerous charges, including sedition and inciting hatred against the state. Wazir denies the charges. Wazir, who is also the leader of the rights group Pashtun Tahafuz Movement, says he campaigns for the rights of his fellow ethnic Pashtuns.
