Malala Reunited With Schoolmates At Edinburgh Event

Pakistani education activist Malala Yousafzai

The Pakistani schoolgirl and education rights activist who survived a Taliban assassination attempt has been reunited with two schoolmates who were injured in the same Taliban attack.

Malala Yousafzai met her school friends Kainat Riaz and Shazia Ramzan during an event at Edinburgh University in Scotland on October 19.

It was the first time they have seen each other since the October 2012 attack, when a Taliban gunman in Pakistan's Swat Valley opened fire at Malala to try to kill her for championing girls' education rights.

Malala, now 16, was shot in the head while Riaz and Ramzan were both wounded in the attack.

All three girls are now living and studying in Britain.

They were guests of honor at the launch Saturday of the Global Citizenship Commission -- a body of leaders representing politics, religious institutions, law, and philanthropy.
