Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani schoolgirl who was shot by the Taliban for campaigning for girls' education, will be honored at the United Nations.
Malala will address the UN Youth Assembly, focusing on education for children.
Some 500 youth leaders from 85 countries are expected to take part, along with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, now a special UN envoy for global education.
The dpa news agency says the UN has designated July 12 as Malala Day. The debate is also taking place on her 16th birthday.
Malala was shot in the head last October by Taliban attackers while traveling to school in Pakistan's Swat Valley.
She now lives in Britain, where she was brought for treatment, including skull surgery.
