Suicide Bomber Strikes Police Vehicle In Northwest Pakistan, Kills 3

A suicide bomber riding on a motorcycle attacked a vehicle carrying a deputy commander of police in the northwestern city of Peshawar, killing at least three people and wounding six others.

The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, which occurred in Peshawar's Hayatabad suburb on June 11.

A local police officer, Nadeem, told RFE/RL that Deputy Commandant of Frontier Reserve Police Tariq Malik was among those wounded in the explosion.

He said the dead included two police officers and one civilian.

The Pakistani Taliban have spent more than a decade fighting to overthrow the Pakistani government and replace it with a hard-line Islamic state.
