A former senator and four people in his entourage were killed on July 3 in a blast in Pakistan’s northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Police in the Bajaur district told RFE/RL's Radio Mashaal that former Senator Hidayatullah Khan’s vehicle was attacked in the volatile Damadola area. He was accompanied by his two guards and two family members, who were all killed in the attack. Hidayatullah Khan was on a campaign trip when his vehicle was targeted by a remote-controlled bomb. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. Hidayatullah Khan joined Pakistan Tehrik-e Insaf (PTI) in 2018 after he was elected to the Senate.
