The Afghan Islamic Press reports that Pakistan has released a group of Taliban prisoners in a move aimed at helping the reconciliation process in war-torn Afghanistan.
Afghan officials say Islamabad will release more Taliban prisoners in addition to at least eight reportedly freed late on November 15.
The deal was reached during talks between a delegation from Afghanistan's High Peace Council and Pakistani officials this week.
Relatives of the leader of Taliban's Tora Bora Front in Afghanistan, Maulvi Anwarul Haq Mujahid, say he was among those released.
Kabul has asked for the release of Taliban commander Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, who was arrested in Pakistan's southern city of Karachi in February 2010.
It is not clear if Baradar was among those released.
A Taliban statement on November 16 welcomed the reported prisoner release.
