Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar says her country is committed to helping achieve peace in neighboring Afghanistan, and to cooperating with the governments of Afghanistan and the United States to attain this goal.
Her remarks on September 27 in an address to the United Nations General Assembly came after U.S. officials recently accused Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence agency of having links to the Haqqani network, which has been blamed for the September 13 assault on the U.S. Embassy in the Afghan capital Kabul and other attacks. Pakistan has repeatedly rejected the allegations.
In her speech to the 193-country General Assembly, Khar said:
"A cooperative endeavor, in full solidarity with the people of Afghanistan, is the only way of ensuring peace, stability and prosperity in the region," Khar said in her speech to the 193-country General Assembly. "Pakistan is willing to do its best with international partners and, most notably, the governments of Afghanistan and the United States, to acquit itself of this high responsibility, at this defining moment in one of the most important struggles of our times."
Khar reiterated that Pakistan condemns recent deadly militant attacks in Afghanistan, and said Pakistan remains firmly committed to combating terrorism and militancy.
