The head of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) directorate has met near Washington with the head of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
Reports say the ISI chief, Lieutenant General Ahmed Shuja Pasha, and CIA head Leon Panetta, discussed Pakistani demands for greater oversight of U.S. intelligence operations on Pakistani territory.
A spokesman for the CIA described the meeting on April 11 at CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, as "productive," and said the CIA-ISI relationship remains on "solid footing."
The meeting comes after the U.S.-Pakistani relationship suffered serious strains following a number of incidents, including the fatal shooting of two Pakistanis by a CIA security contractor in the city of Lahore in January.
Reports quote U.S. officials as saying the CIA is considering Pakistani requests for more coordination and information sharing, but that some Pakistani demands for greater control over CIA activities in Pakistan are unacceptable to the Obama administration.
