Police in the northeastern Egyptian city of Suez have shot and killed two men during clashes between police and protesters amid outrage over the deaths of 74 people on February 1 in violence following a football match.
Health official Muhammed Lasheen confirmed the two were killed by bullets.
Some 3,000 people started demonstrating outside the police station in Suez on February 2.
There was also violence in the capital, Cairo, as Egyptian police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters marching toward the Interior Ministry. Witnesses said thousands of demonstrators chanting slogans against the ruling military council filled the streets around the ministry.
The public has shown signs of impatience with the military council's tight hold on the country since it took over as street demonstrations helped topple longtime President Hosni Mubarak one year ago.
State television reported 628 people were injured in the clashes in Cairo, most of them suffering from tear gas inhalation.
On February 1, rioting erupted between fans of rival football teams in the Mediterranean city of Port Said, leaving 74 people dead and more than 1,000 injured.
