Pussy Riot Claims Field Invasion At World Cup Final

A field invader lunges for a high-five from Kylian Mbappe, France's star forward.

Four people dressed in police uniforms stormed the pitch during the second half of the match at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.

Pussy Riot claimed responsibility for the pitch invasion, tweeting: "Just a few minutes ago four Pussy Riot members performed in the FIFA World Cup final match — 'Policeman enters the Game.'"

The group said the pitch invasion had been a protest with demands including:
To free political prisoners, stop putting people in jail for social media "likes," and allow political competition in Russia.

The field invaders received a hostile response from the Croatians.

The four stormed the pitch as Croatia was making a drive toward goal.

The pitch invasion sparked a furious debate online with many tweeting support for the group, while others claimed they had spoiled a key moment for Croatia.

It's unclear how the four were able to make it past the wall of stewards that lined the edge of the pitch.
