Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in a ceremony on December 23 officially opening railway travel on a new bridge between mainland Russia and the Russian-occupied Crimean Peninsula. Putin traveled on the first train ride from Kerch, on the Crimean Peninsula, to the Russian town of Taman, where he addressed a gathering. The railway bridge sits alongside the road bridge that was opened in May 2018.
