Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed Moscow's involvement in building atomic energy plants with his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, in Cairo on February 10.
Putin said after face-to-face discussions with Sisi that the two talked about "not just about the construction of a nuclear power plant but the creation of an entire atomic [energy] sector in Egypt."
Russian and Egyptian officials signed a memorandum of understanding to build a nuclear power plant in Dabaa, in what would be Egypt's first such facility.
Sisi said that conflicts around the world threatening "civilizational values," he and Putin agreed on "common approaches focused on the need to confront these trends" to establish a "more just world order."
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, and Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab also took part in discussions with Putin and Sisi.
Putin gave a gift of a Kalashnikov assault rifle to Sisi during the visit.
