A court in Romania has upheld the 30-day arrest of divisive social-media personality Andrew Tate on charges of organized crime, human trafficking, and rape. Ramona Bolla, a spokeswoman for the Romanian anti-organized crime agency, said on January 10 the court rejected an appeal by Tate against a judge's decision to extend his arrest to 30 days. Tate, 36, a British-U.S. citizen, was detained on December 29 with his brother, Tristan, who was charged in the same case. Tate, who has reportedly lived in Romania since 2017, was previously banned from social-media platforms for expressing misogynistic views and hate speech.
