Russia's Investigative Committee said on June 21 that it has launched a probe into the death in custody of 40-year-old anti-war activist Anatoly Beryozikov in the southwestern city of Rostov-on-Don last week. The probe was officially launched into an "incitement to suicide by threats, violence, and systematic humiliation." Beryozikov's lawyer, Irina Gak, said last week that she visited her client hours before his death and noticed traces of electric shocks on his body, adding that Beryozikov told her police officers had threatened to kill him.
